This Technical Workshop is Jointly organised by IIM Visakhapatnam Chapter and RINL. Which is Scheduled on 17-01-2019 at Nagarjuna Hall, MDC, Ukku House. The event starts at 9 AM and ends by 6 PM.
National Metallurgy Day was celebrated by the executive committee of IIM Vizag chapter.
The first meeting of the newly formed committee was convened on 14.11.2018 to celebrate National Metallurgists’ Day and to deliberate on the issues to be taken up by the Chapter for the present year at R&D Dept.. It was attended by several people from the Plant. Sri S.Chakroborti, AGM (R&D), Jt.Secretary welcomed the members and the Chapter Chairman Sri K.K.Ghosh, in his welcome address, spoke about the importance of National Metallurgists’ Day. This was followed by the Jt.Secretary’s address on the importance of National Metallurgists’ Day. A cake was cut to commemorate the day and it was reiterated to celebrate the next NMD in a big way. The meeting was concluded by seeking active participation from all the members and Metallurgists.
Knowledge Sharing workshop on Steel Cleanliness and Slag practices conducted by IIM Vizag Chapter
This workshop was jointly organised by M/s IMERYS Aluminates, IIT Mumbai and IIM Visakhapatnam Chapter on 23.11.2018 at Management Development Center of RINL, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. It was inaugurated by the Executive Director (Works), RINL. After the inaugural session, Ms Laurence Canton of M/s Imerys briefed about Steel market overview around the world. The workshop was attended by around 70 delegates from various organisations and educational institutions like RINL, NML – Jamshedpur, TATA Steel – Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar, Midhani – Hyderabad, Peekay Steel – Calicut, JNTU – Vijayanagaram, Andhra University College of Engineering, NIT – AP etc -> The workshop focussed mainly on the importance of slag chemistry on steel cleanliness. Four technical sessions in the following order. 1. The first session was “Theoretical aspects of slags and clean steel production” by Professor Somnath Basu, IIT Mumbai. 2. The second session was by Dr.Rodrigo Lencina of M/s Imerys on steel cleanliness and slag practices using Calcium Aluminate flux followed by RINL presentation on experiences of using synthetic slag. 3. The third session was by Dr. Ashok Kamaraj of NML, on glimpses of clean steel research at CSIR, NML followed by Dr.Anil Kumar of TATA Steel Kalinganagar on “Improving steel cleanliness to reduce nozzle clogging at TSK”. 4. The fourth session was continued by Dr.Rodrigo Lencina of M/s Imerys. The workshop ended with a Q & A session which saw active participation from all the delegates and speakers. It was a rich knowledge sharing experience for all.
